Dentists & Oral Surgeons

At Save-A-Tooth®, we often joke that we have a “revulsion for avulsions”.

Ignorance is avulsion’s greatest challenge

Unfortunately the failure rate of re-implanted teeth is a whopping 90%. Most of that failure is caused by improper technique in handling an avulsed tooth, especially by non-dental professionals who are first-responders when an injury occurs, as well as by hospital staff unfamiliar with proper handling.

And, as you might imagine, in the case of a car accident or other traumatic injury, there can be other parts of the body that require primary attention before any dental trauma can be addressed, during which the clock is ticking on re-implantation. In addition, hospital staff oral surgeons may be unable to reach the patient within the key time window before tooth death occurs. Time is unfortunately not on the side of an avulsed tooth.

What Save-A-Tooth® does

This is where Save-A-Tooth® comes in. Since the tooth’s root cells begin to die off as quickly as 15 minutes after the injury, the Save-A-Tooth® metabolite HBSS solution provides the nutrients the tooth needs to remain viable for up to 24 hours. And because the cells on the tooth root surface are so incredibly sensitive to pressure of any kind, the Save-A-Tooth® cradle cushions the tooth from any additional battering and bruising during transport.

This means other, more critical injuries can be treated first as needed and the patient retains an excellent chance (over 90%!) at reimplantion and long-term viability of the tooth. That gives plenty of time for the patient to be treated by a dentist or oral surgeon in a calm and focused environment.
